Shang Palace – Fine dining in the the elegant surrounds of the Kowloon Shangri-La

While on our travels in Hong Kong we were very kindly invited to dine at the Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel’s Shang Palace restaurant for an evening of flavor discovery and insight into the story behind Chef Mok and his two Michelin stars.

Chef Mok, who has a wealth of international experience, created a six course tasting menu that was exceptional from start to finish. With over 20 years experience in the food industry, Mok has managed to sustain his two Michelin stars at Shang Palace for 6 years in a row. He frequents the food markets in Hong Kong looking for inspirational new ingredients among the abundant top quality produce the city has to offer, designing dishes based on his discoveries. Chef Mok and Shang Palace pride themselves on constantly reinventing their menus and stand out as a real innovator among the crowded Hong Kong food scene.

Shang Palace is a beautiful restaurant, elaborately decorated in traditional Chinese design with service to match. With a tea master on point our brews were kept well topped up with some of the most delicious tea we have tasted anywhere. Our six course menu started with a trio of starters; BBQ suckling pig, sauteed fresh milk and egg white with diced scallops served in a golden cup and crispy lobster with oatmeal. The plate arrived beautifully decorated, the pork was succulent, the golden cup rich and creamy and the lobster was crispy and sweet. It really set the tone for the whole meal and as the next courses were set down, we continued to be bedazzled. A real highlight of the meal was the pan fried, “melt in your mouth” wagyu beef and asparagus topped with crispy garlic.

The restaurant offers an à la carte menu as well as the tasting menu, but as food lovers we recommend the tasting menu for a unique dining experience that you will not regret (or forget!)

Thank you to the Shangri-La team for their elegant hosting. All opinions expressed are our own.
